Cassandra

Certified Veterinary Technician

Casandra Nelson grew up in southeastern Wisconsin and currently lives in Oconomowoc with her parents, two younger sisters, a turtle named Sheldon, and Toby, her dog. She enjoys the outdoors and, every summer, her entire family spends time with her grandparents, who live up north. They kayak, bike, and hike at Devil’s Lake and Lapham Peak.

Casandra’s journey working with animals began in high school when she volunteered at Wildlife in Need and was an intern at the Oconomowoc Animal Hospital. After graduating, she worked in Pewaukee at a doggy daycare and boarding facility. She was thrilled when accepted into the Madison Area Technical College and will graduate in May 2021 as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT).

Cassandra is excited about this career path because she loves to help animals be the healthiest and happiest they can be. Being around animals always puts her in a better mood!

At Brook-Falls, Cassandra provides animal care and works alongside the veterinarians while doing exams and procedures. She especially enjoys assisting with surgeries. It’s exciting to her, and Cassandra hopes to specialize in it someday. On the other hand, she also loves ear cleaning. Cassandra finds it very satisfying to help an animal feel better almost immediately.

When she’s not at work, Cassandra enjoys hanging out with her friends and watching movies. In the past year, during quarantine, she taught her dog, Toby, how to shake his paw. Toby also likes wearing sweaters. Sheldon, her turtle, loves to get attention and will splash in the water when he gets fed. Other than helping animals, Cassandra also has a green thumb. She’s a “plant mom” of ten succulents and plants.

Cassandra is thrilled to be part of the Brook-Falls family.
