Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Blake Root, a Kenosha native, pursued his passion for animal care at Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor’s in Animal Science with a Minor in Animal Ecology. He continued his journey at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in.

Inspired by childhood visits to the Milwaukee Zoo, Blake initially aspired to be a marine biologist or zookeeper before finding his calling in veterinary medicine. He specializes in exotic and zoo animal care, drawing motivation from the challenge and satisfaction of each case and strengthening the human-animal bond.

Acknowledging mentors like Dr. Kurt Sladky, Dr. Christoph Mans, and Dr. Grayson Doss, Blake goes above and beyond in pet care, believing in equal treatment for all species. At home, he cares for a diverse set of pets, including three cats, a ball python, a bearded dragon, and various geckos.

Supported by his parents, Diann and Rich Root, and partner Kati, Blake finds downtime joy in watching sports, gaming, and spending time at home with his pets.
